AS a lower sixth pupil of North Bromsgrove High school I am writing because I wish to clear our reputation as a 'failing' school.
North Bromsgrove High is a good school, and getting better every day.
The latest inspection proved we are making, 'good progress' and are well on the way to being taken out of special measures. It was also reported that the sixth form is recieving 'better teaching than national averages'. Last year we got the best French GCSE results in the county for boys.
But aside from the teaching and specifications, it is the atmosphere that makes the North a place to grow up in, and often this results in bullying and pressure. I cannot claim the school has no bullying, that would be impossible, but there is a distinct lack, and numerous supports for those who are victims, including a school council pupil support, an 'agony aunt' and teacher support.
The Arts department staff are extremley dedicated, recently spending many weekends reheasing for 'Fiddler On The Roof', an incredible achievement for such a young cast and producing various displays to celebrate achievments constantly throughout the year.
I feel I can talk to many of the teachers on a personal level, which is needed, as a tutor support. I also believe the staff are brilliant in terms of motivating towards deadlines and reducing pressure.
The essence of a school are the pupils and North helps us to flourish. We write for the school newspaper, litter pick, help to run the Gambia Link and various charity events - recently a group of lower sixth students organised a tsunami appeal show and raised £500.
People need to give North a chance. We are at an exciting point, our first female head teacher for 100 years and money actually being donated to the school.
We are a good, improving school, and no school can ever be perfect. All we need is some community and business support and we can move a long way forward. Please don't overlook us.
A Happy Pupil
