I WOULD like to comment on the letter, published in the Advertiser on April 6 from Linda Barratt.
The cost of the necessary renovation of the Lido (which may be considerable
after many years of total neglect) should not have to be borne by Droitwich
ratepayers.
At the recent public meeting it was stated by a Wychavon councillor that Wychavon District Council hold a fund of monies obtained from the numerous redevelopments that have occurred in Droitwich in recent times.
This fund has to be spent on recreational facilities in Droitwich and is more than sufficient to cover the refurbishment of the Lido.
Even if, for some reason, Wychavon do not want to release this money for the
Lido (maybe swimming is not a recreation) then surely the only inland sea water bathing Lido in the Midlands would attract Lottery money and surely the only Art Deco open-air pool in the country/world would attract English Heritage money.
I feel it would be a great loss for Droitwich and the country should this
unique facility be demolished.
