DOT Waldron, president, was in the chair for the meeting.
A letter was read out by the secretary from Penny Joyce, parish organiser for Christian Aid, asking for volunteers to deliver envelopes to houses in Stoke Prior and Wychbold during Christian Aid week in May. A group resolutions meeting at Fairfield on April 28 would be attended by Dot Waldron and Pat Tonks. The Corbett Group spring meeting last month hosted by Witton WI had been attended by seven of our members and much enjoyed. The group autumn meeting would be on October 17 with ourselves as hosts.
Pat Kay reported on the result of the skittles match against Hillside WI - our second defeat of the county competition, but a most enjoyable contest. We hope to improve when we play Ipsley for our third match.
Margaret Bradford gave an entertaining account of her recent visit to Denman when she participated in a course entitled Journeys into the Unknown about women travellers of the 18th and 19th centuries.
With normal WI business completed, the president vacated the chair and the members' meeting began, with Jeanne Lewis - in an impressive hat - as president, Ann Brown- similarly hatted - as secretary. The entertainment they had arranged was a session of armchair exercises presented by Dawn, a lissome figure who encouraged us to use muscles, which some had forgotten we possessed, while sitting comfortably. Jeanne thanked Dot for her work for us as president and presented her with a gift from members. Tea was served, the raffle drawn and a pleasant afternoon came to an end.
