A FUN pool and a beach area are the key elements to the proposals from Wychavon District Council to redevelop the Droitwich Lido site.

The plans show a new changing area and a wet play zone as well.

County and district councillor Pam Davey (Con-Droitwich East) is enthusiastic about the proposal. She said it offered the town an opportunity to create a family-friendly facility.

"I am delighted that these proposals will deliver a 21st century facility to ensure that the Lido Park becomes a focal point for family enjoyment," she said.

Leader of the Labour group at Wychavon District Council, Councillor Roy Seabourne (Lab-Droitwich West), said he also backed the scheme.

"This is a facility is much more in line with what the Droitwich people actually need," he added.

Cllr Graham Gopsill (Lib Dem-Droitwich Central) said: "The executive board has hastily had some plans drawn up in time for the election.

"This could have been done before the Lido closed.

"The pool must be large enough to swim in. It is likely to be very popular and get overcrowded.

"It is vital Droitwich people still turn out to vote in the parish poll on April 28.

"There is no guarantee that this scheme will be carried out and it may well turn out to be little more than a paddling pool."
