SPA residents enjoying springtime walks are once again being warned to leave their valuables at home after a bag was taken from a car parked in Worcester Road, Hartlebury, for just 15 minutes.

Police issued the warning after the two mobile phones, a handbag, a purse and bankcards were stolen between 4.15pm and 4.30pm on Thursday, April 14.

A spokesman for south Worcestershire police said: "Fifteen minutes may not seem a long time but it takes a criminal only about a minute to get into a vehicle by force and take the valuables he, or she, is after."

"We strongly advise motorists not to leave any valuables in vehicles whether on view or not.

"Putting valuables in the boot just before a vehicle is left unattended is a clear signal to anyone watching that it is worth their while breaking in."

He added: "The best advice we can offer is to leave valuables at home in the first place or always take them with you when you leave the vehicle, no matter how inconvenient that might be."

The spokesman pointed out that carrying valuables can be less inconvenient than having to cancel cash cards or mobile phones, get the car repaired and replace the stolen items.

He said: "Following our advice can save hours of frustrating follow-up actions and these are all on top of the trauma of someone intruding in your life and taking your personal belongings."
