IT'S all systems go for for Droitwich Spa's 60th anniversary of VE Day next month.

The weekend's events look like they will be the best celebrations in Worcestershire.

The timetable has been finalised and the town will be buzzing on Saturday, May 7 and Sunday, May 8 to celebrate 60 years since Victory in Europe.

Droitwich town centre will be closed to cars for the duration of the weekend, the streets will be decorated with bunting and a crashed Hurricane will have 'landed' in Victoria Square.

Graham Gopsill, who has organised the event, said: "It is going to be absolutely massive. The town will be completely transformed."

The event will kick off with a speech from a Winston Churchill-look-a-like on May 7 in front of St Richard's House.

At 12pm there will be a parade of the Home Guard through the town. At 12.30pm the Victor Fortes will begin the swinging fun in the marquee in Victoria Square and at the same time a traditional wartime wedding will take place outside St Andrew's Church. Vicky Cashmore (pictured below on the right), from Bromsgrove, will be playing the part of the bride.

At 1pm the Whitford and Dodderhill School choir will perform to the amassed crowds. Two of the highlights of the whole event will be a DC3 flyover at 1.30pm and a Spitfire flypast at 2.40pm.

In the evening the Midland Allstar Band - a 20-piece orchestra - will play all the wartime favourites, keeping residents jiving until 11pm.

On Sunday, May 8, Chawson First School's choir will kick the day off at 11am with a performance in the marquee, followed by dancers at 11.30am.

Another wartime wedding will take place outside St Andrews Church at 12.30pm, before a DC3 flyover at 1.30pm.

Great Escape world war veterans will also be on hand for a questions and answers session at St Richard's House.

Throughout the weekend there will be a dressing up box of 1940s clothes for townsfolk to dip into and have their photographs taken.
