We very much regret to see that there is a prospect of the Evesham Horse Show which has now been in existence for some years, dying a natural, or rather an unnatural death, and from the proceedings at the annual meeting of the subscribers on Monday evening it is difficult to understand why there should be any danger of this. The Committee have from time to time had to face a loss on the year's working, but so far have always managed to carry on; but this year, with a fair balance on the right side, it appears almost assured that the Committee will not go on. Why is this? There is probably more in it than we are permitted to know.

For the first time for some years the weather during the first bank holiday weekend of the year was unfavourable for outdoor pastimes. It was cold and cheerless, and in consequence the number of visitors to Evesham and the district fell far below the usual number. River-craft proprietors had a very thin harvest, as did also the caterers. The best attended function appeared to be the North Cotswold Point to Point at Broadway on Easter Monday when the number present was easily a record for this event. The cold spell had also held back the plum blossom and this annual feast for the eyes was not on show for the benefit of those motoring in the district.

The three-day Arts and Crafts Exhibition at Evesham last week arranged by the Friends of Evesham Hospitals, was a resounding success. There were over a thousand visitors, and the entries - mostly from within a ten-mile radius of Evesham - numbered well over 300. In eighteen sections, ranging from painting to model engineering, were some outstanding examples of amateur work; and the standard generally was considerably higher than expected. The exhibition was organised primarily to draw popular attention to the aims and objects of the Friends, and, as the planning was on an ambitious scale, no financial profit was expected. It is now apparent, however, that there will be a profit and details will be given when the accounts are complete.

Hinton-on-the-Green residents will be holding a crisis meeting tomorrow night to discuss plans for a gas storage depot and maintenance yard on the former MEB land at Hinton. An application has been lodged by Leedons of Broadway for permission to use three sheds for the storage of gas cylinders, and to construct a lorry park and maintenance yard for the repair of client's vehicles. Two years ago the residents held a meeting which was attended by Michael Spicer, MP for South Worcestershire, to see if it was possible to use one of the sheds as a village hall. Ten days ago the 17 residents in Bevans Lane received a "bombshell" when they had a letter from Wychavon to see if they had any objections to the present proposals.
