TWO years of campaigning to save our wonderful Lea Street First School in Kidderminster are finally over.
All of our letters, radio and television interviews, meetings, marches and speeches did nothing to alter a decision which was "in the bag" long before we were privy to its contents.
The original schools named for closure are to be closed. The three-tier system is to be abolished. The fact that the electorate, virtually all schools, teaching staff and parents did not want this is immaterial.
Two years ago I believed that we would make a difference and that there were a few honourable politicians who would listen.
There were none - just a lot of empty promises and political point-scoring.
Parents in the front line have been used as little more than pawns in a political game of chess - foot soldiers that are easily dispensable.
We fought the battles - the political parties joined in when they could benefit and left when we were clearly losing.
I will not be voting in the forthcoming May 5 elections as I do not believe anything the candidates say.
"Safe routes to school" and "walk to school" are clearly not applicable to our children as the local schools are to be closed.
As for "parental choice" and "smaller class sizes" - well, Worcestershire County Council and cabinet are obviously exempt from central government policies. "Education, education, education" should be replaced with "Promises, promises, promises".
To not vote is not a wasted vote - but to vote would be a waste. God help the prospective MP who knocks on my door!
And finally, thank you to the Schools Organisation Committee whose 23 members were issued with a massive document from our school which was accompanied by 23 stamped, addressed envelopes to be returned as proof of receipt.
Five of you returned your postcards - need I say more?
