KIDDERMINSTER
schoolgirl Emma Smith is set to lead the line for Leeds United Football Club's Ladies team after winning a place at their academy.
The 16-year-old Baxter College pupil attended trials with the Yorkshire club last month and impressed coaches enough to be offered a scholarship. Smith, who currently plays up front for Droitwich Spa ladies will combine playing for the Yorkshire club with studying towards a sports qualification.
She said: "I'm delighted to have been selected for this because it's a wonderful opportunity.
"There's a lot of people I'd like to thank including my old teacher Mrs Mumby at Birchen Coppice for first encouraging me to play."
