Worcester Under-13 19, Evesham 26
AFTER a recent run of excellent performances, the Evesham boys faced their toughest challenge this season against the strong Worcester club at Six Ways.
Evesham stamped their authority from the start and after five minutes Ben Farrah drove over the line to give Evesham an early lead, which was increased by an excellent conversion by Mike Diston.
Worcester were dominating the scrums causing Evesham to bring their backs into defensive roles but they held firm and after a number of turnovers were rewarded by an excellent try from No.8 Tom Bailey which again was converted by Diston to bring the score to 14-0.
Worcester by now had got themselves together and were playing the ball wide at every opportunity but excellent defending by Mike Ibbotson, Mike Gander, Ian Sime and Ross Hayward prevented the Worcester team from making too much progress.
Evesham again piled on the pressure and were rewarded by a fine try from man-of-the-match Josh Taylor.
Worcester responded from the restart and scored a deserved converted try, followed by another try to make the score 19-12 at half-time.
Twelve minutes into the second half, Josh Taylor made a storming run across the pitch and up the right wing to score between the posts. Sam Hopkins increased the score by converting the try.
Worcester replied with a series of driving mauls to score a converted try after 21 minutes but Evesham hung on and continued to push Worcester until the whistle to earn a well-deserved victory.
Evesham U-13s are in action again on Sunday in their last game of the season away to the Birmingham Exiles.
