ONE of the few churches in the country with a crooked spire - St Mary's in Cleobury Mortimer - is set to host a concert by one of the West Midlands' leading chamber orchestras.
Eighty-five musicians from the Sinfonia of Birmingham are performing at the church, which recently underwent major restoration work, including the construction of a new roof, on Sunday, May 1.
The concert will raise cash for the church's restoration fund and the programme of music includes Berlioz's Overture to the opera Beatrice and Benedict, as well as music by Ligeti and Weber's Clarinet Concerto No 1.
Brahms's Symphony No 1 will bring the event to a tuneful close. The conductor for the evening will be Michael Seal, while the orchestra will be led by Chris Hughes and the soloist for the occasion is Timothy Lines.
