TURNOUT was again well into double figures to enjoy the stiff breeze from the South East that was to provide some super sport at Evesham Sailing Club and with the extra blow the heavier boats could take charge on Sunday.

The first race, a round of the Pursuit series, saw Mike Long and John O'Brian cross the start with a six-minute lead from the next away. John was over fairly soon with a prolonged ducking but Mike Long sailed on, establishing a healthy lead.

With the release of the bulk of the fleet there was a lot of ground to be made up. Green from his start quickly swallowed up those in front and took on the long chase to catch the leader and with three parts of the hour gone he eventually headed the fleet and steadily pulled away.

Edwards occasionally looked that he might threaten but had to settle for second well before the end. The fight for third was a real ding-dong battle between the Styles in their Lark and the Baylises in an Enterprise, over the whole hour no quarter was given and it was the latter who eventually sailed into third spot.

With the beginning of the second race a fine drizzle had set in which was not to dampen the enthusiasm. This was a massed start, the Styles, who were well last, could see the wedge of boats in front and successfully plotted a course round everybody to sail through into clear air.

Taking advantage of their planning and that everybody was tripping over one another they sailed away. Eventually Edwards and Green pulled themselves together and broke clear to fight for second and third but it was along way behind the rampaging Styles.
