A FORMER MG Rover worker who took the innovative step of advertising himself for hire in the Worcester News could soon be back in employment after his plight attracted national attention.
Father-of-two Stewart Hart was with the carmaker for 21 years and worked his way up to process manager. But like five thousand other people he was made redundant at the beginning of this week. Now, his unusual methods have attracted the attention of employers and the national media.
The BBC Midlands Today programme interviewed the 43-year-old, of Pirie Avenue, Warndon Villages, yesterday and several national newspapers have expressed an interest in his story.
Also, a recruitment agency in Worcester, Expeto, has contacted him with a position they think might be of interest. There was also better news for another worker who lives in the county. Alan Lee, of Kidderminster, works as a valet for the Phoenix dealership in the town. On Wednesday, the Worcester News reported how he and his pregnant girlfriend faced eviction from their home if he wasn't paid. Mr Lee has not only now been told he will be paid on Monday but has been offered at least three months more work with the firm.
"I just hope they do as they say, as it will make life much easier," he said. "We have been told we have until Tuesday to pay the rent on the house," he added.
