Community groups have a last chance to benefit from funding in the final phase of Malvern Hills Lions Club grants.

On top of the usual £1,000, the club has an extra £500 to hand out, thanks to its Santa's Sleigh project.

"We're very pleased to have the extra money," said Lions spokesman David Jeavons.

"It's a bit like getting a Christmas present in the middle of April."

Groups can apply for a share of up to £250, for a particular piece of equipment or project.

This year's grant scheme, in association with the Malvern Gazette & Ledbury Reporter, has benefited 14 groups so far.

"Money has gone to a range of organisations, from groups for elderly people, right through to play groups," said Mr Jeavons.

"We also help new organisations that are starting up."

Among those to benefit were 1st Malvern Boys' Brigade, Cradley Playgroup, Welland Pre-School and Noah's Ark Trust.

"It just so happened that the groups given money last time were children's groups, but we're offering money to all sorts of organisations," said Mr Jeavons.

To apply, write saying why your club, group or organisation should be considered for a grant, how much you would like and what it will be spent on, to: Lions Club Grant Scheme, Malvern Gazette, Broads Bank, Malvern, Worcestershire, WR14 2HP.
