HANLEY Swan FC won their first trophy in many years when they beat Inkberrow 1-0 in the Worcester League's Phipps Cup at the Langland Stadium last Thursday.
HANLEY SWAN 1, INKBERROW A RES 0
A quiet first-half saw little in the way of chances for either team.
The second-half was a much livelier affair with Richard Foley of Hanley testing the Inkberrow keeper on a number of ocassions. However, the use of the long ball game by Inkberrow did little to provide entertainment for the fans.
The deadlock was broken in the first period of extra-time, a good shot from Simon Williams was cleared off the line but was headed firmly into the net by Hanley substitute Matt Cooke.
Hanley became more dominant but, despite strong runs by Andy Rogers and David Schooling, there were no further goals.
This cup win followed a creditable performance at Powick the previous Saturday where Hanley became the first team to take a point off league champions Powick this season in a 1-1 draw.
Tomorrow (Saturday) Hanley play their final game of the season against West Malvern. Due to the unavailability of facilities, the game will be played at the Hill Centre Upton.
