I am writing with regard to the front page article in the Malvern Gazette (April 15) which relates to the withdrawal of the option for Newtown Sports Juniors Football Club to move to Sling Lane from its present location on Lower Howsell Road.

It does not surprise me that there has been an about-turn in this deal as once again the selfish residents of Malvern make enough noise for the "anything for an easy life" MHDC to withdraw its offer.

Both my boys have played for Newtown Sports for the past seven years and I know from their participation how much the people who run the club put into it on a weekly basis.

They all work tirelessly to ensure the players enjoy their experience win, lose or draw and their efforts are rewarded with a kick in the teeth. Their current situation is very difficult and they need bigger facilities.

I live on Lower Howsell Road, not too far from the pitches and yes there is significant traffic congestion, yes there is some noise from the players and the often enthusiastic crowds but it only lasts for 2 hours on a Saturday morning and similarly on a Sunday afternoon. Not a lot to ask to keep the kids of Malvern occupied and off the streets.

There are little or no facilities for the kids in Malvern and credit should be given to Newtown Sports, Malvern Town Wanderers and all the other local football clubs, so come on residents of Malvern let's have some support for these people.

A trophy gained for the children's participation is a much better option than an anti-social behaviour order, isn't it?
