LOCAL people who took part the London Marathon have so far raised more than £8,000 for charity.

Five runners from the Malvern area completed the 26-mile course on Sunday.

Jane Tull, from Dymock, raised £1,500 for bereaved children's charity, Winston's Wish.

"I've been running for three years and this was my first marathon. It was good to finish," she said.

Bridget Strawbridge, of West Malvern, finished the event despite picking up an injury in the first half-mile.

She described it as an amazing experience, and said: "Everyone should run the London marathon at least once in their lifetime."

She is still hoping to reach her fundraising goal of £2,000 for Children With Leukaemia. To sponsor her, call 01684 562042.

Jane Myhill, who ran for the same charity, completed her first marathon in four-and-a-half hours and raised £2,500.

She described finishing the run as "euphoric".

"I'd like to thank everyone who has donated," she said. "It was a wonderful experience."

Brian Marks, who ran for the Motor Neurone Disease Association, completed the marathon in just over three hours. He is set to raise £400.

Although he also picked up an injury on the way round, Brian said: "I managed to limp over the line. I'm happy to finish."

To sponsor Brian, call Sheila Williamson of the Motor Neurone Disease Association on 01684 564820.

Robert Edwards, who has raised £1,600 for Cancer Research UK, completed the marathon in under four hours.

He now lives in London but went to Hillside School in Malvern. Anyone who remembers him is encouraged to donate by calling 01684 566016.
