A WOMAN priest has returned to Malvern to comfort sick patients at the community hospital.

Rev Marjorie Stanton-Hyde took over as part-time hospital chaplain from Rev Mary Barr at the end of last month.

On Tuesday, she was licensed in her new post by the Bishop of Dudley.

Her role at the 18-bed hospital in Lansdowne Crescent is to minister to the spiritual needs of patients and offer friendship.

Previously, the 68-year-old worked as a warden in the Jesus Hospital, in Canterbury, but always kept her home in Malvern.

Rev Stanton-Hyde also served as Rector of Hartlebury from 1996 to 1998 and as a non-stipendiary priest at Malvern Priory from 1998 to 2002. During her time in Canterbury, she was also honorary chaplain at the city's King's School and assisted in cathedral services.

"That was a call from God to go to Canterbury and this is a call to come back and I'm very happy to do that," she said.
