BIG changes are on the cards in a bid to make Worcester Wolves an even stronger force in England Basketball League Division One.

Wolves reached the play-off semi-final in their first season in the top flight, losing out to City of Sheffield Arrows 172-157 on aggregate last Saturday.

Now the dust has settled, Wolves chiefs have had time to take stock of just what the team has achieved.

When Wolves were promoted last season, nobody gave them much chance in Division One.

But a fourth-place league finish, play-off semi-final, as well as National Trophy and National Cup semi-finals, has shown everybody that Wolves are here to stay.

Director of basketball Mick Donovan said the players were desperately disappointed at losing to Sheffield but it had been a successful season.

He said: "It's quite rare for someone to go up and do that well. We wish the season was starting again next month so we can put it right.

"The foundations are in place, we have now got to go away and build on those. We have got to be wise and not waste the opportunity we have created for ourselves."

Managing director Roger Clarke added: "We are pleased and we are proud of them. We were strong enough and we have proved it throughout the season.

"We have always been positive and we could and should have taken a top two spot but we slipped up a lot over November and December.

Clarke expects new faces at University College Worcester for Wolves to reach the play-off final next year.

"We are going to review the whole set-up," he added. "There will definitely be some big changes."

Himself and Donovan are due in Lithuania next month to scout players and there are likely to be several more visiting the Faithful City over the next few weeks.

Donovan added: "We want to make sure we are ready to go come September."
