PAVILION Players are Worcester Table Tennis League Division Two champions after contenders YMCA Hornets slipped up against Jograkeramage, losing 6-4.
The defeat was disappointing, especially as Dave Williams had to retire during the match due to injury.
With Players and Hornets playing their last match against each other, it could otherwise have been the decider.
The top two drew 5-5 with Williams and Nick Price taking two singles wins each, while Pete Stevens' defeat of Janet Hunt showed the squad's strength.
Players' Lynda Reid was woman-of-the-match with three victories from games that all went to five sets.
Margaret Dignum defeated Stevens in three sets and then beat Price and Williams with Hunt in the doubles to secure a draw.
Himbleton 'A' finished bottom after their 7-3 loss to Players and Cripplegate Ash's 6-4 win over Jograkeramage.
In the last Division Three week of the season, Cripplegate Guild gained revenge on leaders YMCA Falcons by winning three points.
In the singles, Gordon Nicklin beat Falcons' in-form John Stalker and Chris Hughes to put the Guild 5-1 up.
But Nicklin, teamed up with Mike Sledge, lost the doubles before Stalker went on to beat Sledge and Hughes overcame Beryl Shammon. However, Nicklin completed his hat-trick in the last match against John Cawthra.
Broadheath Belters recorded a good 8-2 win over Himbleton 'C' with Brett Brining winning all three singles matches again.
Brining also teamed up with Pete Roberts to take the doubles against Adam Throssle and Malcolm Parker.
Hartlebury British Legion finished strongly with a good 6-4 win against Cripplegate and a 5-5 draw with Himbleton but were still relegated.
Falcons needed one point to clinch the title from their last match of the season against Broadheath.
Hughes beat Pete Roberts in the first match and Cawthra put the Falcons two up, beating Ken Hipwell in a five-game tussle.
In the clash of the titans, Belters' Brining beat Stalker to also secure the best league singles average title.
But Falcons' Hughes was man-of-the-match, beating Brining in a five-set thriller to secure the title.
He then teamed up with Stalker to win the doubles and beat Hipwell in the final match.
Champions Dingos roared to a nine-point margin in the Worcester Youth League Division One with the help of Jamie Mills' 100 per cent record.
An improved David Hull-Blanshard took matches when needed and the talented Jack Dent added good results.
Daredevils held the runners-up spot through the efforts of Peter Moonlight, Dominic Stephens and Ryan Carter.
In Division Two, Pythons claimed the title, also by nine points, as Tom Revell, Shafaz Ditta and Jessica Lee were consistent throughout the season.
Ching Chong Choppers' Sam Revell, Joe Lee and Gabriel Dent were second.
The finals and trophy presentation are being held tonight at Christopher Whitehead School, Bromwich Road, starting from 7pm with the men's singles semi-finals.
For the first time, two junior finals will also be played as well as the veterans, ladies' singles and men's doubles competitions.
