IN reply to Benjamin Eaton (Letters, Tuesday, April 12), I find it incredible that anyone can think in such a manner.

Has this correspondent never heard of destruction of the Twin Towers of the New York trade centre and the Madrid railway disaster?

Such awful occurrences could even happen in Worcester or Stourport-on-Severn because it is the intention of Muslim fundamentalist Osama bin Laden and al Qaida to destroy Western civilisation by every means possible.

The threat of nuclear annihilation is also still with us. Within the last 10 years, India, Pakistan and probably, North Korea have acquired nuclear weapons.

Like the majority of sensible people, I wish "to feel the safety of internal security legislation." We now have an unprecedented degree of lawlessness in this country. Exceptional times require exceptional measures.

D E MARGRETT,

Worcester
