AUTHENTIC outfits, songs and weapons helped stir memories of the Second World War across Worcestershire.
A series of events were held during the weekend as part of the BBC's People's War project where first hand wartime accounts are recorded by volunteers.
In Fernhill Heath, just north of Worcester, villagers enjoyed a display at the Memorial Hall on Saturday.
In the evening a dinner - made "on the ration" - and dance raised funds for the Martin Hussingtree Church Building Fund.
"It was really fascinating. People came from across the village which is what we were looking for," said Jenni Waugh, the BBC's People's War organiser in the West Midlands.
"We had a lady who worked on the ARP (Air Raid Precautions) control desks who set up a swear box because the men were very naughty and she made a fortune for the WRVS food fund."
Meanwhile, the clock was turned back at Hanbury Hall, in Droitwich, where they held a Second World War theme day.
Pupils from nearby Hanbury School raised spirits thanks to a selection of wartime songs including The Quartermaster's Stores, Run, Rabbit, Run and Maisy Dotes.
"It went down very well. Year 4 are studying the Second World War in history so it tied in nicely with that," said class teacher Vicky Bishop.
"There was a break between performances and the children's parents took them round the various stands to look at the weapons and talk to people.
"We're going to be doing some celebrations at school for VE Day and they will be learning some more songs."
Memories of Herefordshire's war effort were exchanged at Helen Manor House, at Much Marcle, near Ledbury.
Anyone who wants to take part in the People's War scheme is asked to telephone the BBC Hereford & Worcester's action desk on 01905 856000.
