CAMPAIGNERS fighting to save the Droitwich lido say they are confident they will receive the backing of townsfolk in this week's parish poll.
Although the outcome of the poll will not have a direct bearing on the future of the outdoor pool, which has been earmarked for closure, supporters hope it will prove the town wants the facility to stay.
Campaign group Save A Lido Today (SALT) has been doing some last minute canvassing before Thursday's vote.
Member Sheila Price said: "There were a lot of people asking where they could go to vote and coming up to us to give their support."
"The town is very angry about the closure of the Lido and I think we can be sure of a good turnout on Thursday."
The open-air pool's future appeared finalised a couple of months ago when Wychavon District Council voted to send in the bulldozers and put forward plans for an alternative development.
Their plans include a heated pool, a beach area, a spa pool, treatment rooms and a caf.
But SALT has revealed it is sceptical about the plan and would like to see the lido re-opened in something similar to its old format.
"The council hasn't yet costed the site and the plans could change," added Mrs Price.
"We want to see the lido re-opened and I am confident the people of Droitwich will show they do too."
The poll, which will cost the town council £8,000, takes place from 4-8pm on Thursday, April 28. Votes can be placed at the usual local polling stations.
