Alcester's fencing elite was in competition at King Henry's School in Coventry for one of the national series of junior fencing competitions recently.
Alcester Grammar School's Christopher Brenda made the final against Brentwood School's Henry Gann.
Brenda put up a spirited fight but was beaten to the gold by the more experienced Gann in an enthralling finale.
Also fencing but unplaced in the competition was John Cutmore and St Benedict's High School pupil Alexander York fencing in his first ever competition
Under 13s fencer Tessa Smallbone, also from St Benedict's High School, put up a good fight to come 12th in her first competition.
n All the Alcester fencers currently join up at school clubs or at the Stratford Fencing Club in Shottery Memorial Hall but plans are afoot for a new Alcester based club.
Time and venue are still to be decided but those interested in a town fencing club are being urged to sign up at the Greig Sports Hall or call Mike Garrity on 01386 841028 or 07711 369 040.
