Old Yardleians 30 Droitwich 24
DROITWICH almost ended their disappointing season on a high when they pushed Old Yardleians all the way on Saturday.
The relegated side came close to taking maximum points off a powerful Yardelians side.
Phil Horton's late try ensured Spa was in touching distance of their rivals.
Director of rugby Julian Bailey said: "Even though we lost I have to give the players full credit for the hard work their put in.
"We lost the game but to be fair we pushed Yardlieans all the way.
"They just had too much power for us in the end."
Droitwich went into the match already relegated from the Midlands Division Three West (South) but produced a spirited display.
However, they could not match their rival's strength, as Yardleians were able to breach Spa's defence with rolling mauls.
However, a well taken try by Dean Goddard and Nick Godfrey's touch down kept Droitwich in-touch.
Bailey is expecting to field a full strength side for Friday night's Jack Andrews Memorial Trophy match away at Worcester Wanderers (7.15pm start).
Droitwich go into the game looking to keep the trophy they have won for the last two years.
However, they face a Worcester side in good form after finishing third in the Midlands Four West (South).
Bailey said: "The players don't want to lose the trophy."
