Despite walking with the aid of a frame or a stick, after her accident, Betty Long managed to climb the stairs at Bromsgrove Golf Centre in order to welcome the members to the April meeting, and in her usual humorous way, telling us of the way that the young man who rescued her after her fall is now being teased about 'picking up old ladies off the street.'
The registrar reports that new members are still joining our group and that we will have to put a ceiling of 90 on the membership.
Joan English reminded us of the outing with Brian Draper along the Severn Valley on May 27.
The secretary invited members to submit any good ideas for this years summer dinner venue.
No-one was forthcoming so as usual the committee will go ahead and make all necessary arrangements for an August evening.
Richard Westcott was introduced as the speaker. He has been (and still is) a pantomime dame in professional stage productions.
He proceeded to entertain us, keeping us in fits of laughter for a whole hour while he applied his theatrical make-up, giving us a master class at the same time, climbed into his stage clothes (ably assisted by Mary Rutter!) and then told us of his parts in various pantomimes.
He is undisputedly the funniest speaker we have had in our 23 years of existence! As the professionals would say, he is a hard act to follow.
The chairman thanked him and the meeting closed after coffee and tea had been enjoyed.
