WORKERS at a Bromsgrove college site will be scaling new heights when they take on the gruelling Three Peaks Challenge.
The team of five from Moss Construction's site at NEW College will be climbing Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scafell Pike in the Lake District and Snowdon in North Wales all in 24 hours.
"None of the team has any experience of mountain climbing," said former North Bromsgrove High School pupil Andy Powell, one of three in the support team. "It must have been a moment of madness to go in for it because it's a tough challenge."
The team has tackled Snowdon and the Malvern Hills in preparation for the task, which they're hoping will net them £5,000 for international development agency CARE International.
The weekend starts with the ascent of Ben Nevis on Saturday, May 7, then they will travel overnight to tackle Scafell Pike early on Sunday before a drive to Wales for the Snowdon climb. They're allowed a total of ten hours driving time and each start is timed to cut out speeding on the roads. The team is made up of Craig Garrood, Malcolm Flute, Matt Stevens and Gareth McGill, who all work for Moss, and Martin Atkins from site electricians CA Sothers. They all come from around the Birmingham area.
