SCORES of patriotic residents watched as courageous Saint George rescued a damsel in distress from the top of St Laurence's Church tower on Saturday.
The event was part of Alvechurch's St George's Day extravaganza and saw the namesake saint battle with a fiery dragon to win the hearts of villagers.
Other activities included a display of Morris dancing and a real ale festival.
Meanwhile, Walsall Coronet Marching Band came to the rescue in Studley on Sunday when Scouts, Cubs and Beavers gathered for a huge St George's Day parade.
The event could have been a damp squib as Scout leader Karen Marshall explained to the Advertiser two weeks ago, when she was finding it impossible to recruit a marching band to lead the troops along.
But following an appeal on Radio WM's Ed Doolan Show, the Walsall band got in touch just in time.
