NEW play equipment at a Worcester park should be explored as a top priority, a city councillor has claimed.
Claines councillor Liz Smith asked council leader Stephen Inman at this week's full council meeting to welcome the extension of Gheluvelt Park as long overdue as part of a £125,000 programme of improvement works.
The Barbourne park's extension by the River Severn is set to undergo a make-over featuring tree planting, new seating, a picnic area and paths to the riverside following city council approval last month.
But Coun Smith said it was also vital to replace the existing play equipment.
A set of swings, climbing frame and multi-activity unit are currently located in the park but have been there for several years.
"Further improvements, especially provision of playground equipment, which has been promised for several years, should be progressed as a matter of urgency," said Coun Smith.
