A NATIONAL search for the "UK's top 50 guys" is expected to see 1,000 muscle-bound hunks descend on Kidderminster next month - in the hope of driving women wild in a remake of Eric Prydz's sexy music video, Call On Me.
Tom Arnold decided his Kidderminster-based company, Global TV, should re-release the single after being asked by a female friend why a version of the original video - which features a host of toned, lycra-clad fitness goddesses working out - could not be made to appeal to women.
The former cameraman on the BBC One drama, Casualty, now plans to shoot such a film in the South of France with a budget of around £85,000 and is looking for "the fittest guys to do a mickey-take of the original video with guys instead of girls".
He told the Shuttle/Times and News he had already selected four to take part, including under-21 tennis star, Elliot Wronski, and would be recruiting more at auditions, starting on Sunday, May 8 at Oliver's cafe bar in Lower Mill Street, Kidderminster.
He said places must be booked for the audition, which was expected to attract around 1,000 hopefuls from across the country.
Further auditions would be held in London or Birmingham, he said.
The 28-year-old, whose company also recorded UK Jackass, last year, explained he had contacted Swedish producer and DJ Prydz's record company and would be using a re-mix of the single that charted at number one in the UK last year.
"We're looking for 50 guys who would class themselves as good looking and have good bodies because that's what the girls want to see", he said.
He added choreography training was due to begin in mid to late June and the 50 performers would be flown over to the South of France the following weekend, when "shooting" would begin.
When asked about the content of the video, he was keen to keep it under wraps but said it would not be set in a gym like the original.
He added feedback so far indicated the CD, which will incorporate the video, would sell well because there were more women than men in the UK.
"Instead of going to watch The Chippendales or something they can just watch my video," he laughed. More information on the auditions can be obtained by calling 0871 874 0300 or e-mailing globaltv@blueyonder.co.uk
l Tom Arnold's version of Call On Me will not be the only video of his work on sale in music stores across the country as the cameraman's madcap creation, UK Jackass, is also due to be released next month.
The DVD, which is being put out by international company MTV, features a host of stunts, including Cowpat Press-Ups.
Another scene shows someone being pulled behind a quad bike on a sledge and going through a field of corn, naked, Tom said - describing the DVD as "full of silly things".
He added the company that he set up two years ago also filmed motor sport events on a regular basis and provided cameramen for news teams.
He said he employed four members of staff "as and when he needed them" and was currently looking to recruit another two production assistants, with advertisements in Kidderminster Job Centre.
