DECORATIVE AND FINE ARTS SOCIETY: The April meeting was an illustrated talk by Chloe Cockerill MBE on 1,000 Years of English Churches. The lecture highlighted the work of the Churches Conservation Trust which cares for churches which are no longer in use but which are too important to be allowed to fall in to disuse. They range from tiny Saxon village churches to much grander buildings attached to stately homes and may be in the middle of a field or in the city centre. Evesham's own St Lawrence is a typical example, but there are seven others in Worcestershire.
The next meeting is at Evesham Arts Centre on Wednesday, May 11 at 8pm and is entitled Romancing the Stone, a History of the Diamond.
