ROTARY CLUB: The month of March started with a major annual event for many club members, the conference at Torquay. Members heard of the many activities being supported by Rotary Clubs throughout the Gloucestershire area and heard first hand of the world problems and the ways in which Rotary can and does contribute to overcoming them. Evening social activities included a Thirties' Gangster Party and a traditional formal dinner accompanied with a concert by the Army Air Corps Band arranged by the North Cotswolds Club.
To help promote sport and group activities for local youngsters, on Sunday March 13 North Cotswolds Rotary arranged an opportunity for children to receive free advice, at the Cotswold School in Bourton, on their football and other skills from Birmingham City FC experts.
This year sees the club celebrating both the Centenary of Rotary International and the 40th Anniversary of the North Cotswolds Club. The Centenary was toasted at a formal dinner held in the Merrymouth Inn and, at a special ruby anniversary meeting in Stow.
Just into April the club, together with Round Table, played host to a party of 18 senior citizens from local villages to the traditional Naunton Variety Show held in the village hall. Refreshments were provided by the Club.
Club members now look forward to their formal Ruby Anniversary Dinner at the end of April and to the opening of the new Rotary Gardens by the Lord Lieutenant on Wednesday, June 8.
