STOURPORT signed off from Walshes Meadow with a 1-0 victory over Egham Town but they had to work hard against the league's basement side and a club already relegated.

Andy Jones capped an impressive display with the match winner while Duncan Willetts proved a constant thorn in the visitors' side with his tireless work.

There was almost a dream start for Swifts when striker Richard Burgess tried his luck with a speculative effort that forced the Egham keeper into a fine fingertip save to push the shot over the bar.

Mark Atkinson replaced Dan Mason early in the second half and almost broke the deadlock with his first touch, a header bringing another good save from the Surrey side's stopper.

Willetts continued to upset the Egham defence and had claims for a penalty turned down despite being sent to the floor by an unscrupulous challenge inside the area.

The breakthrough finally came on 69 minutes. John Shirley's corner was not dealt with by the visiting defence and Willetts sent the set-piece back across the face of goals to find Jones at the far post to head in.

Substitute Alex Volosonovs almost doubled the advantage with a glancing header that brought the save of the afternoon from the hard-working Egham keeper and the Swifts were also denied a last minute "goal" when the referee adjudged the ball had not crossed the line.

Swifts round off their Southern League Division One West campaign away at Burnham on Saturday.
