EVESHAM Kart racer Cassey Watson, aged 13, got her 2005 season off to a fantastic start by becoming Vice-Winter Champion at the prestigious Buckmore Park circuit in Chatham Kent.
Driving her ARC Elite Junior TKM kart, Cassey managed to earn enough points to hang on for second in the championship despite an unfortunate drop-out in the round two final that put an end to her efforts for the outright championship win.
"This was exciting for two reasons; Buckmore Park is my favourite track and the most demanding circuit we visit and also this was my first time out with my new team ARC and I know my results will only get better as I get used to the kart," said Cassey.
This will be Cassey's final year in karts before moving in to cars in 2006, racing in the T-Car championship before moving to the US in October 2006 as the next step towards her dream of competing in the Indy 500.
