A NEW bus shelter will be erected on Worcester Road, in Malvern town centre.
Worcestershire County Council will put the shelter at the existing stop south of the Foley Arms Hotel, after requests for a shelter for routes to Malvern Wells.
Originally a shelter was proposed for Belle Vue Terrace but Malvern Town Council opposed the idea on aesthetic grounds.
The town council's preferred site outside the post office was opposed by bus operators, police, Malvern Wells Parish Council and others.
A county council spokesman said the new shelter will serve more routes than one at Belle Vue Terrace, such as ones going down Church Street.
Jan Bowden, chairman of Malvern Wells Parish Council, said she was surprised to discover the proposal.
"I'm not sure whether this is the best place for it," she said, "It's near the building society's cash machine and I'm worried about the security issues."
