KAYS BROADHEATH U14S 1

NEWTOWN Sports Colts entertained a much changed Kays team in their first proper match for several weeks.

Kays started brightly and had Newtown on the back-foot. Powell, Jaye, Buckle, Allison and Edwards found it difficult to retain possession in midfield, so Hale and Crane were left to pick up the scraps up front. Kays had several half chances but Johnson dealt with them comfortably. Kays broke the deadlock when Elmes made a great recovery tackle but the rest of the Newtown team failed to react as the ball fell to Jones, who drove in a shot wide of the diving Johnson.

In the second-half, Newtown started with more resolve, and with more possession created several good chances. With minutes left, Newtown sacrificed Elmes for Baker in attack and nearly paid the price when Jones hit the bar for Kays. Roskams then fed Scullion whose long pass was knocked-on by Allison to Hale, he jinked into the box found the net with the last kick of the game.

SEVERN CITY 1, NEWTOWN SPORTS JUNIORS 4

THE first match of this double header saw the Juniors race into a four goal lead and effectively kill off the match in the first half.

Will Watling opened the scoring with a fierce drive that the keeper failed to hold. It was all Newtown as they pressed forward and when Severn failed to clear Rock was on hand to stab home. The pace of Turner was a thorn in Severn's side and he raced down the right and his lofted drive found the back of the net. The industrious Bannister notched his side's fourth when the ball crept under the keeper. Newtown took the opportunity to rotate the squad at half-time.

The disruption allowed Severn back into the game and they created several chances only to be denied by Freeman in the Juniors' goal. They did pull a goal back minutes from the end when the forward raced clear and rode two tackles before slotting home in the corner.

Man-of-the-match was Matt Bannister

SEVERN CITY 3, NEWTOWN SPORTS JUNIORS 5

THIS second encounter was a cracker of a match.

Juniors started well with Will Watling quickly putting the Juniors two up with accomplished finishes. The first a delightful chip over the keeper and the second a sublime flick into the net. In this match Severn committed more men to attack and they scored three goals in a five minute spell to rock the Juniors. The first a rasping volley from a corner and then two defensive mistakes allowed Severn to go in front. A poor clearance allowed the forward a clear shot at goal and when the ball came back off the post several chances to clear were missed and the forward scored.

The second-half saw Severn defending stoutly and Juniors pressing. It took ten minutes before the Juniors grabbed an equaliser when Watling went an excellent run before rounding the keeper to score. Rock then missed a golden chance when he beat everyone and then rattled the bar but moments alter he made amends with a fine low shot into the back of the net. Severn rallied but this time the defence held firm and Newtown wrapped up the points in the last minute when Bannister hooked in a loose ball.

Man-of-the-match was Will Watling.

WORCESTER RANGERS 1,

NEWTOWN SPORTS JUNIORS U12S 8
