A grant of £25,000 has been used to buy play equipment for Colwall's Orlin Road field.
New swings, an activity centre with monkey bars, climbing frame, walkways and zip-wire have been ordered by the Orlin Road Residents' Association.
At a Colwall Parish Council meeting on Wednesday, association chairman and councillor Rhod Scott-Wilson said he was delighted with the grant, from the Government's Living Spaces fund.
"It's taken me about a year to get this far, so I'm really pleased we can get started.
"The project has really brought people together, so the fact that we've achieved something is great."
Coun Scott-Wilson said the equipment would be made of wood and fit in with the rural environment. Rubber safety matting will be used on the site, which the grass is able to grow through.
The equipment is due to be installed in around six weeks. A dying ash tree on the playing fields will also be replaced.
Speeding through the village was another issue raised at the meeting.
Coun Phil Browning said he was in discussion with Herefordshire Council about installing signs reminding people of the 30mph limit and would report back to the council when a decision was made.
The council has been invited to submit a question to the annual meeting of Herefordshire Primary Care Trust on May 16.
It wants to ensure patients in Colwall can go to Malvern, instead of Ross-on-Wye, for out-of-hours medical treatment.
Council chairman Nicky Carless said the council would liaise with patient health forum member Marcus Allen, to discuss a possible question. It will also send a representative to the meeting.
