MALVERN Hockey Club began their summer league warm-up fixtures with an away game at Kingswinford, who are currently playing in the division above Malvern.
KINGSWINFORD HC 1, MALVERN HC 4
Malvern attacked from the off and could have scored within the first five minutes when a through- ball found Ben Mawby on the goal line, but he failed to connect.
The break through came when some excellent one-touch passing between Ben Fieldhouse, Davey Sheath and John Forecast created a space for on-form striker Leigh Robinson, who turned and shot the ball into the far corner of the goal.
Moments later Malvern were back in the opponents D, and again Ben Mawby was unlucky not to make a connection from a superb cross from Davey Sheath.
With five minutes of the first half remaining, Malvern finally got their deserved second. A quality cross from the right side by James Forrester found Robinson lurking with intent. Robinson jabbed the ball under the oncoming keeper.
The second half began with Kingswinford making some major personnel changes. This had the desired effect because within three minutes of the re-start, they pulled a goal back when Paul Willis took the ball around the back of the Malvern defence. He slotted it inside the post past Malvern keeper Alex Dakin.
This seemed to fire Malvern who attacked aggressively. They were quickly rewarded when a superb piece of individual play and a venomous shot from John Forecast put Malvern 3-0 up.
Malvern's fourth came with 10 minutes remaining. A simple short ball from a long corner found Robinson on the by-line. He took the ball round two defenders, and put a tight cross into the penalty spot where Brian Crump was waiting. Crump despatched the ball into the bottom left corner, leaving the goalkeeper with no chance.
This was Malvern's best performance of the season and they thoroughly deserved the victory.
Malvern's man-of-the-match was Leigh Robinson.
Malvern are currently looking for players of all ages and abilities. Anyone interested in joining should contact Leigh Robinson on 01684 593057 or 0790 353 8552.
