THE first race in the Arden Trophy Handicap Series, for all classes, took place at Arden Sailing Club, Defford, on Sunday.
The south-easterly wind gave a good long run down river and it was the Enterprise of Niall Campbell and Jane Smee that was the first to break clear of the pack after a busy start.
Throughout the race, the Solo of Andrew Potts threatened Campbell but failed to catch him, Keith Stevens in his Comet put in a good performance for third place.
The second race was the second in the Strensham series. The wind was still south-east but gusting a little stronger, which made for interesting sailing, especially for the single-handers.
To everyone's satisfaction, the wind kept up all the way to Strensham and back, making for a long, hard but satisfying sail. Andrew Potts again threatened to beat Niall Campbell on handicap but didn't quite make it, with Alan Salerman and Ray Trace in an Enterprise in third place.
The members of Arden have a busy period ahead, with a training course starting next Saturday (May 7).
There are still a few places left. If anyone is interested in the course or the club, contact Ray 01386 554109 or Alan 0121 453 6611
