THREE young golfers from The Chase Technology College in Malvern have won a place at the regional final of the British Heart Foundation (BHF) Junior Golf Championship to be held at Edgbaston Golf Club on July 11.
The trio were one of 11 scoring teams in the preliminary round at Tewkesbury Park Golf and Country Club.
James Kear (15), Daniel Long (15) and Phil Harris (14) made up the Chase Technology College team, which finished with a total of 82 points in a stableford competition.
The British Heart Foundation Junior Golf Championship, which is supported by the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews and Colin Montgomerie OBE, is unique in being the only team contest played nationally that is open to both boys and girls of all levels under the age of 18.
The national final will be played at The Belfry.
Four Worcestershire golfers have also made it through to the regional finals of the UK's largest women's amateur golf tournament -- the Chrysler Ladies Challenge 2005.
Linda Ottway, Mary Steventon, Libby Nicholl and Jane Beale will be travelling to Long Ashton Golf Club near Bristol on June 29.
The players, who are all members of Droitwich Golf Club, will be teeing off against teams from across the area and are playing under the banner of Chrysler and Jeep dealer City & County of Worcester.
A golf trip of a lifetime awaits amateur Eddie Marszalek and his Wharton Park club professional Angus Hoare if they can come through the next stage of Europe's biggest pro-am competition, the Lombard Trophy.
Marszalek took his first big step towards a luxury five-day trip to the Algarve in Portugal, when he won the Bewdley club's qualifying competition with a nett score of 66. He and Hoare now advance to the regional final on May 23 at Little Aston Golf Club, where they will play one round of better-ball medal play.
The winning professional in the regional final receives £475, and there are valuable prizes for the top amateurs.
The winners of 16 regional finals throughout Great Britain and Ireland will enjoy an expenses paid luxury trip to compete in the Grand Final in Portugal from September 14-18.
Jason Gale won division one of the Sapey Golf Club April monthly medal.
