KS Athletic 2 Tenbury United Reserves 2
TENBURY produced a fine battling performance to take a Kidderminster League Division 1 point off second-placed KS on Saturday. They took the lead in the first half but then had to fight-back after the home team scored either side of the break.
The Reserves surprised the confident home side by taking control of the game in the early stages. They opened the scoring on the half-hour mark when Jackie Magill poked the loose ball home after the home defence had failed to clear a Brett McIntosh through ball.
This stirred the Athletic into action and they were level before the break. Following some neat midfield play the ball was played through to split the defence for a good equaliser. The sides were evenly matched in the third quarter in spite of the visitors losing two players to injuries.
The writing looked to be on the wall when the home team took the lead through slack marking at a corner 20 minutes from time. The Reserves kept plugging away and snatched an equaliser in the 88th minute. Pete Stevens, who was also to suffer an injury, played the ball to Magill who squared it across goal for Grant Harris to head home.
KS piled on the pressure in the closing minutes but the Tenbury defence held firm to take a hard-earned point. Ironically the sides will play the return fixture at Palmer's Meadow on Saturday.
The first team game against Wednesbury at Palmer's Meadow was called off because the visitor's transport broke down. They did see some action when they took on the Reserves on Sunday but a single goal from Aaron Morris settled the game in favour of the first team.
