Following its West End success, the 75th Anniversary Production of RC Sherriff's Journey's End visits Birmingham Hippodrome for five performances only this month.
The play is set in 1918, in the British trenches at St Quentin. A company of officers prepare for a daring raid across No Mans Land, in advance of the long-awaited German offensive - a day that saw the deaths of 38,000 men.
This compelling play, based on the author's own experience of life in the trenches, shows humour and courage in the face of certain tragedy. It remains an important reminder of the horrors of war and the real, unromanticised heroes who fought it.
Tom Wisdom, who stars in the Sky series Mile High and also appeared in Coronation Street as hairdresser Tom Ferguson, will play the role of Stanhope. Joining the company playing Osborne is John Elmes, an actor with a long and successful career. John comes direct from the West End production of Journey's End where he played the Colonel and understudied the role of Osborne.
Journey's End is directed by David Grindley, whose previous directing credits include Abigail's Party at Hampstead Theatre, the West End and on tour, The Real Inspector Hound at the Comedy Theatre and Excuses at the Soho Theatre.
The production runs from Monday, May 23 to Wednesday, May 25.
