IN March, several of us attended the Maundy Thursday service at St Mary de Wyche Church - a service commemorating the tumultuous events of the day before the original Good Friday when Christ was crucified.
The final moments of the service were silent and solemn as the church ornaments were removed from the altar and chancel and as the congregation dispersed in darkness. Some stayed for the Watch in the Lady Chapel where lilies created a garden of remembrance, and where the ancient service of Compline provided a reverent conclusion.
This month, on May 18, we shall be making for Wichenford for the annual gathering of Church Fellowships. It is planned to make this an outing, with a simple lunch en route before being at Wichenford Church for the service at 2.30pm. Confirm travel arrangements with Angela (861247). On May 26, we meet again at St Mary de Wyche Church for our Songs of Praise evening, when members of groups across the parish and other friends join us.
