WIDESPREAD confusion has been caused by the name of Redditch AIR festival's star-studded pop event but festival chiefs say they are unable to drop the title.
Redditch Council's choice of "Pop in the Park", to be staged on Sunday, June 5, has met criticism from Birmingham radio station's BRMB chiefs, who said listeners were confusing the event with their own Birmingham-based "Party in the Park".
"Pop in the Park" will be held in Arrow Valley Park, a month before the BRMB event, which is held in a Birmingham park and also features Natasha Bedingfield.
BRMB's marketing and operations controller, Howard Bradley, said: "There's no doubt the AIR event will be great for Redditch but we need to clear up the confusion between the two unconnected events."
But Redditch Council's director of cultural services, Paul Patten, said advertising material had already been published so it was too late for the title to be dropped.
However, he added the council would use the name "AIR Festival" when referring to that particular event, which will also feature Lemar, Natasha Bedingfield and Liberty X.
Tickets are available from the ticket hotline 08700 424282 or online at www.artsinredditch.com and concessions will be available with a Reddicard.
