BROMSGROVE Swimming Club made a strong start to the Mercian League by scoring an emphatic victory over their rivals at the Dolphin Centre on Saturday.

The club completed the first round with 216 points, 30 ahead of second placed Wombourne.

Success was achieved by some impressive individual performances, but it was Bromsgrove's relay teams who spearheaded victory by winning 11 events.

Amanda Swan handed her club a strong start with a competitive race in the open 4x1 medley.

However, with teammates Louisa Ball, Kirsty Rosthill, Gemma Hutchings and Emily McNally, Swan won the open medley relay.

The girls' under-10s freestyle team of Ellie Williams, Caelyn Hirschman, Charlotte Baker, Alice Alton and Amy Fisher stormed to victory.

Williams won the 50 metres breaststroke, while Alton was victorious in the 50m backstroke.

Matthew Duffill won the under-10s 50m backstroke.

Duffill then joined Daniel Higham, Ilijah Daniel and Lewis Javad to win the under-10s relay.

Matt Hunt won the open 4x1 medley and then finished second in the 100m breastroke.

Joe Wright, Jack Cracknel, William Newton and Stuart Claire won the under-12s relay.

Wright also performed strongly in the 50m butterfly.

His sister, Amy, completed strongly in the under-14s 100m breastroke and then teamed up with Naomi Barrett, Victoria Law and Katy Masters in the under-14s relay to win.

Ed Mansell finished third in the under-14s 100m breastroke, after being called up to an older age group.

Heather Tattrie won the under-12s 100m breastroke, while Rosthill was victorious in the open girls' event.

Victoria Law, Conor Simmons and Emily McNally roared to victory in their 100m freestyle races.

Alice Farmiloe, Masters, Tattrie and Holly Aldridge produced a strong performance to win their under-12s relay.

In the boys' open event a quartet consisting of Anthony Shipton, Tom Mansell, Richard Davidson and Matt Hunt were victorious.

Mansell joined forces with Claire, Simmons and Newton to win their under-14s relay.
