A LEARNER driver put her dad in hospital after reversing into him by mistake.
She managed to gain enough momentum in less than 40ft to also rip out and mount the brick gateway pillar at the Bromwich Road home.
It happened yesterday afternoon at one of the houses set back from the main road around a 'village green' in St John's, Worcester.
The commotion brought residents out from neighbouring houses. At least three police cars and an ambulance were sent, said a bystander.
The silver Honda Civic came to rest on top of a red brick pillar, with the driver's side about one foot off the ground, and the back windscreen shattered spraying glass on the road. It had narrowly missed hitting the neighbour's car as well.
Paramedics took the 42-year-old dad to the Royal Worcestershire Hospital with cuts to his arms and head. He is in a stable condition.
One person living nearby, who didn't want to be named, heard the engine scream and a bump. He said the family were "pretty shaken up."
The neighbour said he thought the accelerator had been pressed instead of the brake by mistake.
Another said the learner driver and her father were just getting ready to go out for a lesson.
