MG car fans are due to gather at Webbs of Wychbold for the start of the traditional Welsh Rallye this weekend.

Organised by the MG Car Club Midland Centre, the event on Saturday, May 14, will include some classic MGs from the 1930s and 40s with Midgets and MGBs and more modern models such as the MGF and the MG TF Spark.

The event will provide a major boost to enthusiasts, who have been left distraught at MG Rover's demise.

Organiser Wendy Keeling said: "The MG has a place in the hearts of many people and we welcome anyone to come and have a look at the cars and wave us off from Webbs. The tradition of the Welsh Rallye dates back to just after the Second World War and it's very much about driving the open road and enjoying the wind in your hair."

The oldest cars set off first with most leaving at one-minute intervals from 9.15am with the last car leaving about an hour later.

"We are very pleased to welcome the MG Car Club," said Ed Webb, managing director of Webbs.
