THE flags were flying at the house of a Worcester war veteran who celebrated the 60th anniversary of VE Day on Sunday.
David Ellis raised two ensigns at his Southall Avenue, Claines, home to commemorate the end of the war in Europe. The 80-year-old said he was proud to fly the flags to honour all those who died.
"If only the generations that have come after us were to be taught the terrors that some of us endured," he said. "They would realise the freedom they enjoy was dearly bought."
Mr Ellis said he 'commandeered' the German naval ensign at the end of the war in 1945 from the U-boat U71 in Williamshaven.
