CONGRATULATIONS on your Flashback series with its nostalgic glimpses of dear old Worcester in the days before developers got out of hand and ruined it. I have noted how the caption often comments on how well dressed the people depicted are.
As a 14-year-old tailors' shop assistant I was expected to turn up for work wearing little short of formal morning attire. It comprised black jacket and vest with striped trousers and highly polished shoes, a white starched linen collar and discrete necktie.
The manager went one better and wore a winged collar and spats. Among my many duties were included such menial tasks as scrubbing the step and polishing the floor.
Today's casual attire would have been regarded with abject horror much as my generation regards the hideous Friar Street multi-storey car park in such close proximity to the Cathedral
