POLICE are warning silverware dealers and collectors to be on the alert for offers of what could be stolen property.
It follows the theft of two Georgian silver cream jugs - 4ins and 5ins tall respectively and valued at a total of £800 - from an unlocked green Mercedes estate car in Back Lane, Broadway.
The incident happened some time before 11.30am on Friday, May 6, when the vehicle was left unsupervised.
A £100 leather hold-all, shaving kit valued at £20 and a £10 pair of pyjamas were also taken.
A police spokesman said it was likely the two jugs would find their way onto the open market.
"Dealers and collectors should be on their guard as the thief - or thieves - try to pass these off as genuine items for sale," he added.
"This theft also highlights the need for motorists to be sure their vehicles are always left secure and not to leave valuables in their vehicles - even if they are locked."
If anyone saw anything suspicious at around the time of the theft, or is offered any of the stolen items, they are asked to contact police on 08457 444888, quoting 49C/060505.
